Get breastfeeding off on the right foot by booking a prenatal visit in your 3rd trimester. Prenatal visits consist of reviewing your health history and with your consent, visually and manually assessing your breasts. Every lactation visit consists of reviewing your current concerns, taking a weighted feed before and after your baby eats to determine milk intake, and a functional oral exam consisting of observing baby feeding and also manually assessing baby’s mouth with a gloved hand to determine oral function that can impact feeding behaviors. I will provide a care plan of the suggestions we discussed during your visit to help you meet your feeding goals. I am available to clarify and amplify your current care plan in my secure online portal for one week after our visit. If new issues arise or if you need care after one week, please book a follow-up visit.

Things can change so quickly with a new baby and I am here to support you through it all.

If you have a different insurance company or do not have insurance, I accept payment at the end of each appointment — you can pay with a card, cash or check. I will provide you with a superbill after your consultation for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I cannot guarantee reimbursement even though the Affordable Care Act stipulates insurance companies must cover support, counseling, and equipment for the duration of breastfeeding. For more information about your specific insurance company’s lactation coverage, I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card.

  • As an IBCLC, I am an expert in the full scope of breastfeeding experiences and potential problems. Clinical lactation care is much more than assisting with positioning and giving encouraging words. My scope of practice includes visual and physical examination of your breasts, functional examination of baby’s oral structure, taking health histories to understand the big picture, setting parents up with supplemental feeding systems, sharing information about homeopathy/herbs/natural remedies, referring to appropriate local providers and MORE!!

  • I prefer face-to-face visits for lactation clinical care. However, if you feel called to telehealth visits for your situation, please email me at laura@healthandlactation.com and let me know what’s going on. If I’m not a good fit for your telehealth needs, I will refer you to a skilled IBCLC who offers telehealth services.
